What are ascites liver?

My neighbour was diagnosed with some liver problem and her doctor mentioned 'ascites'. I'm not familiar with this term, especially in relation to the liver. What exactly are ascites liver?

Basically it is fluid buildup in the stomach because of liver issues, the belly swells up like a balloon. Keeping salt very low in food helps with water retention, but please don't just sit at home. This needs a proper doctor's visit and treatment, home tips can only support so much.

Ascites is when portal hypertension from liver scarring causes fluid to leak into the peritoneal cavity. When my father had this, the doctor explained that the liver stops making enough albumin protein, which keeps fluid in the blood vessels. They will likely prescribe diuretics and a very low sodium diet, so please consult a specialist.

Oh man, my cousin had this and he was completely put on a zero-salt diet, which was pure torture for a foodie like him. It basically means the liver is struggling and sending fluid to the belly. You have to strictly avoid processed food and junk if you want to recover from this.

It is essentially water accumulation in the abdomen due to advanced liver damage. Honestly, there are no quick hacks or weekend remedies for this. Just book an appointment with a specialist immediately and get an ultrasound done to see what is happening.

Agreed with others, it is indeed fluid accumulation in the belly area. Please make sure they check the patient's daily fluid and water intake as advised by their doctor.

I have seen this happen to a couple of friends in my circle during old age. It looks scary because the stomach swells up so fast, but with modern medicines and strict doctor's advice, it can be managed well. Keep your faith strong and get the medical tests done soon.

Please take this very seriously. My uncle had this and we thought it was just gas, but it turned out to be severe liver damage and the doctor had to drain the fluid. Don't waste time looking for remedies online, go straight to a good gastroenterologist.
