What age does breast cancer start?

There's a breast cancer awareness drive happening in my office, and it got me thinking. My grandmother had it in her 70s. What age does breast cancer typically start or become more common?

My mom was diagnosed at 45, but during her hospital visits, we saw much younger girls in their late 20s also getting treatment. There is no fixed age, guys, so if you or anyone in your family feels a hard lump, get an ultrasound or mammogram done immediately.

While it is more common after 40, it can actually happen at younger ages too. The best thing is to do regular self-exams every month after you turn 20, just to be safe and aware! Stay healthy and positive always.

The risk increases as you age, especially after 40 or 50. Please consult an oncologist for guidelines on when to start yearly screening mammograms.

Having PCOS makes me pay extra attention to my hormonal health, and I've read that breast cancer can occasionally occur in younger women in their 20s and 30s too. It's always best to be cautious, monitor any changes in your body, and discuss screening options with your doctor during routine checkups.

Most cases are diagnosed after the age of 40, but early onset is also rising in India. Don't rely on generic age charts. If there is a family history or any physical symptoms, schedule a clinical breast exam with a gynecologist or oncologist without delay.
