Was tb curable in 1899?

My grandfather always used to talk about how tough it was when he was a kid and people used to get TB. I was just wondering if back in 1899, was it even possible for someone to recover from it completely? Like, did they have any proper cure then?

Honestly, health issues are so tricky to handle without modern medicine. Even for my thyroid, I have to get blood tests done every few months to stay on track. If you are reading up about TB out of concern for someone today, please just make sure they get tested regularly and follow the doctor's prescription strictly.

Actually, back in 1899, we did not have proper antibiotics for TB. People were mostly sent to sanatoriums in hill stations for fresh air and rest. Real cure only came much later in the 1940s with streptomycin, so back then it was mostly about luck and strong immunity.

Oh god, definitely not! 1899 was way before modern antibiotics were invented. People back then basically had to rely on good food and resting in clean air. Thankfully today we can easily cure it with a proper course of medicines, so no need to worry.

No chance, bro. I recently finished my 6-month DOTS course for TB and my doctor told me how deadly this disease was before modern medicine. In 1899, people just prayed and hoped their body would fight it off. Thank god we live in 2025 now where the treatment is fully available and works.

I can only speak from what I've read and heard from my elders. My great-granduncle had some lung issues in the early 1900s and they could only give him warm milk and herbal decoctions at home because there were no proper tablets back then. It was a very scary time for families dealing with chest infections.
