Should newborns sleep on their back or stomach?

My cousin just had a baby and was told to always make her sleep on her back. I remember my mum always put me on my stomach sometimes. Should newborns sleep on their back or stomach?

As a perpetually sleep-deprived parent, I can tell you the only answer is BACK. Every. Single. Time. It's literally the first rule of baby sleep safety. Any other position is just asking for more worries you don't need at 3 AM.

Definitely on their back! When my baby was born last year, our pediatrician and all the hospital staff constantly emphasized this. It's the safest position to prevent SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Never on their stomach or side for sleep. Just place them on their back in a clear crib.

Modern medical advice, which you can easily cross-reference on any reputable health app or website, universally states that infants should sleep on their back. It's a key recommendation for safe sleep practices to prevent SIDS. Ensure their sleep environment is clear too. This isn't up for debate anymore.

This is a critical safety aspect, much like careful diet for health. All medical guidelines are very clear: newborns should always be placed on their back to sleep. This reduces the risk of serious sleep-related incidents. It's not a choice between back or stomach; back is the only recommended position.

For small issues, I might suggest home remedies, but for a newborn's sleep position, you MUST follow the doctor's clear instructions. They all say back is safest. It is very important for the baby's well-being. Don't take chances with this, please.
