Is whole wheat flour good for diabetics?

I recently found out I have high blood sugar, and my doctor recommended making healthier food choices. I mainly use whole wheat flour for rotis at home. Is whole wheat flour considered good for diabetics, or should I look into other options?

Whole wheat flour is a much better option than maida because of the fiber content, which helps manage blood sugar levels. If your doctor permits daily physical activity, a nice 20-minute walk after your meal can further help in controlling any glucose spikes.

My daughter has Type 1 diabetes, so we transitioned from regular flour to whole wheat flour mixed with a little chana dal flour. This simple mix adds extra protein and prevents her sugar levels from fluctuating too much after meals. It is a very practical and healthy family solution.

Whole wheat flour is definitely superior to refined flours, but the portion size still matters because it is carb-dense. It is always best to consult your endocrinologist or dietitian to understand the exact proportion of carbs your body needs daily.

I panicked so much when my father was first diagnosed, and I thought we had to stop wheat entirely. But we realized that regular whole wheat flour is actually very safe and normal for diabetics, especially when eaten with lots of vegetables. There is no need to stress!

I get so worried reading about glycemic index numbers of different flours, and sometimes I feel like everything I eat might spike my sugar. If you are anxious about wheat flour, maybe try mixing it with oats or ragi flour to be extra safe. It helped ease my mind a lot.
