Is white rice ok for diabetics?

My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes, and now we are trying to change our family's diet. We eat rice almost every day with our dal and sabzi. Is white rice completely off-limits for him, or can he have it in moderation?

Yes, you can eat it, but you have to be very careful with the quantity. Always mix your white rice with a generous amount of green vegetables or dal to lower the overall glycemic load. Never eat plain white rice on an empty stomach.

Personally, we boil the white rice and drain the excess starch water before serving, which is an old home practice to make it lighter. However, diabetes is a serious matter, so please check your blood sugar levels regularly and consult your doctor for any severe spikes.

Agree, white rice is okay in small portions. Just ensure you eat it with lots of fiber like salad first.

When my mother's sugar levels shot up, we took her to Fortis and the specialist there strictly restricted her white rice intake. They gave us a precise meal chart. I highly suggest getting a proper consultation rather than relying on general advice.

I completely understand how terrifying it is when you are diagnosed and feel like you have to give up all your favorite foods. You don't have to panic. White rice is okay in tiny portions, but try transitioning to brown rice or daliya slowly for peace of mind.

If you are a rice lover, giving it up is torture! My cheat code is to cook white rice with some ghee and cumin, but keep the portion size very small and load the rest of the plate with spicy chicken or paneer. It satisfies the craving without ruining my health goals.

Actually yaar, my dad has diabetes and completely cutting out rice was impossible for him. So he just eats a small bowl now, but with lots of dal and salad. It's all about balancing the carbs, you know.
