Is white bread bad for diabetics?

My doctor told me to reduce my intake of refined carbs because of my diabetes. I love white bread with my breakfast, but I'm worried it might be making my sugar levels worse. Is white bread really that bad for diabetics?

Beta, white bread is made of refined flour (maida) which is very bad for sugar levels. In our time we only ate handmade whole wheat rotis. If you have sugar, avoid bread completely and stick to simple home-made grains.

White bread has a very high glycemic index of around 75, which causes a rapid spike in blood glucose. I track my meals on my fitness app, and even one slice of white bread spikes my sugars compared to multigrain options.

I was researching this for my father and found that white bread digests very fast, which is why it raises blood sugar so quickly. It seems brown or multigrain bread is slightly better, but avoiding bread is best.

Yes, white bread has high sodium and refined carbs, which is bad for both blood pressure and diabetes. I had to completely stop eating it and started doing regular morning walks to keep my levels safe.

My grandmother has diabetes and we don't even bring white bread home anymore. It is basically just maida and sugar, so it is definitely bad for diabetic patients.

When we went to Apollo Hospital for my mother's diabetes consultation, the doctor strictly told us to ban white bread from her diet. You should ask your doctor for a customized diabetic meal chart.
