Is viral hepatitis contagious?

My cousin was diagnosed with viral hepatitis, and now I'm worried about being around them. I'm not sure how it spreads. Is viral hepatitis contagious?

Yes, types like Hepatitis A are highly contagious and spread through contaminated food and water. This is why it is extremely important to maintain hygiene, avoid eating raw outside food during monsoons, and drink only boiled or filtered water.

Yes, it is contagious, and honestly, with how easily these things spread, I am terrified of even sharing water bottles at the office now. Please wash your hands properly and keep your distance if someone in the house has it.

Yes, indeed. Some spread through food and others through blood, so don't go sharing razors or eating from unhygienic roadside stalls. Getting a vaccine is much easier than dealing with a swollen liver later!

My family doctor explained that while Hepatitis A and E spread through contaminated food and water, Hepatitis B and C are blood-borne and spread through shared needles or bodily fluids. So the level of contagiousness and transmission route depends entirely on the specific virus.

Yes, viral hepatitis is contagious, but the way it spreads varies. For A and E, just practice good hand hygiene and drink clean water. For B and C, ensure safe blood practices and get vaccinated for Hepatitis B if you haven't already.
