Is typhus the same as typhoid?

My uncle had typhoid some years back, and recently someone mentioned typhus. It sounded similar. Can someone clarify if typhus is the same as typhoid, or if they are completely different illnesses?

No, they're distinct. Knowing the difference helps avoid misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment, which can be costly. Typhoid is food/water borne, typhus is from insects. So prevention methods and required tests would also differ.

No beta, they are not same. Typhoid comes from bad food or water. Typhus comes from a bite of small bugs like lice. Both make you sick but are different diseases. For any fever, always go to the government hospital, they help.

My family doctor clarified this for me once. Typhoid fever is caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi, transmitted through contaminated food and water. Typhus, however, is caused by Rickettsia bacteria and is spread via insect vectors like fleas, lice, and mites. They are definitely not the same.

Nah, not the same at all. My friend had typhus, it was from lice I think, and I had typhoid from some street food a few years back. Very different reasons and how you catch them. So yeah, different stuff.

No, both are different fevers. Typhoid is usually from contaminated food or water. Typhus is spread by insects. While I believe in good home practices for health, for these kinds of fevers, a doctor's diagnosis and treatment are absolutely essential. Don't confuse them.
