Is type 2 diabetes hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia?

My friend was talking about high and low blood sugar, and I got confused when she mentioned diabetes. For type 2 diabetes, is it characterized by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)? I want to get it right.

My doctor explained it very clearly: Type 2 diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia. This means your blood sugar levels are consistently too high. Hypoglycemia, on the other hand, is low blood sugar and can be a side effect of some diabetes treatments, but it's not what defines Type 2 diabetes itself.

It's primarily hyperglycemia, meaning high blood sugar. That's what I dealt with when I was diagnosed. Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar, which can happen if you take too much medication or don't eat enough after insulin. So, for Type 2 itself, it's high blood sugar.

Type 2 diabetes means hyperglycemia, which is high blood sugar. Like high BP, it's something that needs constant monitoring and lifestyle adjustments. Regular check-ups are key to keeping both in control.

Oh, so it's high blood sugar then? That makes sense. But can people with Type 2 also get low blood sugar sometimes? Or is that just for Type 1? I'm still trying to understand all these terms.

When I first heard all these terms, I panicked! But it's actually quite simple: Type 2 diabetes is when your sugar is too high (hyperglycemia). Hypoglycemia is when it drops too low, which can be a side effect of some treatments. So, it's primarily the 'hyper' part. Don't worry, you'll learn to manage it.

Hey, don't stress too much over the big words! Type 2 is mainly about your blood sugar being too HIGH (hyperglycemia). Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can happen if meds are too strong or you skip meals, but the core issue of Type 2 is the high sugar. Got it?
