Is turmeric toxic to liver?
My neighbor was telling me that too much turmeric can actually be bad for your liver. We use a lot of turmeric in our cooking daily, so this got me a little concerned. Is it true that turmeric can be toxic to the liver?

Oh dear, don't worry so much! We've been using haldi in our food for generations, and for small ailments too. Never heard of it being toxic to the liver in normal amounts. Our grandparents used it all their lives. It's usually good for you, but like anything, don't go overboard with supplements, okay?
Nah, not in regular amounts. It's a staple in Indian cooking. Problematic only if you're taking like, industrial amounts of concentrated curcumin supplements or have an underlying liver issue that's aggravated. For daily cooking, zero worries.
For the average person consuming turmeric in food, toxicity is not a concern. It's when people go for highly concentrated extracts or supplements without understanding the dosage that problems can arise, especially if they have pre-existing conditions. Stick to natural food use, or consult a doctor before supplementing.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, turmeric (haldi) is considered a powerful cleanser and detoxifier, beneficial for many organs including the liver. It's about balance. If taken in natural food forms or small therapeutic doses, it supports health. Excess of anything, even good, can disturb the body's balance. Listen to your body.
With PCOS, I've learned to be really careful about everything I put in my body. While turmeric has many benefits, like everything, moderation is key. There have been some rare cases of liver issues reported with *very high doses* of turmeric supplements, not usually from food. If you're concerned, especially if you have existing health conditions, it's always best to ask your doctor.

In regular cooking amounts, turmeric is definitely not toxic. We use it daily. The issues usually come if someone is taking very high doses of supplements without a doctor's advice, or if they already have liver issues. For normal use, it's a good spice.
Hey! Don't stress too much about this. Unless you're like, eating spoonfuls of raw turmeric powder every day or taking super high-dose supplements, it's highly unlikely to be toxic. Our daadi's recipes have haldi in everything and they're all healthy! Just keep it normal. 🤗
