Is trazodone for pain?

My neighbour takes Trazodone for his chronic back pain, and he says it helps him sleep too. I also have some persistent body aches. Is Trazodone actually prescribed for pain relief?

Actually, generally trazodone is prescribed for depression and sleep issues. While sometimes it might help with pain indirectly by improving sleep or mood, it's not a primary painkiller. If you're having pain, it's always better to consult a doctor to find the right medication for that specific problem.

Nah, dude, I don't think so. My friend takes it for sleep, like, if he can't sleep properly. Never heard of it being for pain directly. If you're having pain, you should probably see a doctor or something for actual painkillers.

Not really for pain, bro. My uncle takes it for sleep because he has insomnia. I think it helps with mood and sleep primarily. For pain, usually they give something else, like ibuprofen or proper pain meds. Better to check with a doc if you're in pain.

Trazodone is primarily used for depression and to help with sleep. While improving sleep can sometimes alleviate chronic pain indirectly, it's not prescribed as a direct pain medication. If you're experiencing pain, it's really important to talk to a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Don't self-medicate based on assumptions.

My doctor explained that trazodone is an antidepressant with sedative effects, often used off-label for insomnia. It can sometimes be used in lower doses for certain types of chronic pain, particularly neuropathic pain or pain associated with depression, but it's not its main indication. Always discuss your specific pain symptoms with your physician to get the right treatment.

For general aches and pains, I usually try some home remedies like hot packs or ayurvedic oils first. But for something like trazodone, which is a stronger medicine, I believe it's mostly for sleep or mood. If you're in pain, please don't just take any medicine. Go to a proper doctor; they will know what is best for you. It's tough dealing with pain, I understand.
