Is tourette's a mental health disorder?

I have a cousin who has Tourette's, and sometimes people treat it like it's just a bad habit or something. Is it actually considered a mental health disorder, or is it a neurological condition? I want to understand it better to support her.

It can be so frustrating when people misclassify Tourette's. It is actually a neurological condition, not a mental illness, although the stress of managing tics can affect your mental peace. Having gone through the emotional toll of being misunderstood, I completely validate how hard this is.

While you don't 'recover' from Tourette's fully, my tics have become highly manageable recently with proper therapy. It is definitely a neurological issue involving the nervous system, not a psychiatric disorder, though reducing anxiety helps reduce the tics a lot.

We initially ignored my nephew's repetitive blinking, thinking it was just a bad habit. By the time we took him to a neurologist, his tics had worsened significantly. Please don't delay getting a proper medical checkup from a specialist if you notice persistent symptoms.

From what I have read, it is classified as a neurological condition of the brain. Sometimes it co-exists with OCD or ADHD, which are mental health conditions, but Tourette's itself is about the nervous system. Always consult a neurologist to get the right facts.

It is a neurological disorder, and getting a proper diagnosis usually involves seeing a pediatric neurologist or psychiatrist. Plan your budget for consultations and potential behavioral therapy, which can cost a bit but is very useful in the long run.

Honestly, I don't know much about the medical side of Tourette's, but I do know that stress triggers it, and for me, stress just triggers massive biryani cravings! But seriously, it's a neurological brain thing, not a mental disorder. Keep positive and eat well!
