Is there an at home diabetes test?

My mother has diabetes, and we have to regularly check her sugar levels. We use a glucometer, but sometimes I wonder if there's any simpler at-home diabetes test, maybe even without pricking, to get an idea of levels?

Yeah bro, you can easily get a basic blood glucometer from any pharmacy or online app. You just need to prick your finger and it gives the sugar reading in 5 seconds. It is super cheap and easy to use at home.

My father always kept a digital glucometer at home to monitor his sugar levels. But our family doctor says that while home devices are great for daily tracking, a proper venous blood test from a certified lab is necessary to officially diagnose diabetes.

Buying a home glucometer is very practical and costs around 800 to 1000 rupees. The strips can be a bit expensive, so I only test twice a week—once fasting and once after food. It keeps my sugar in check without spending too much at labs.

I have been checking my sugar at home for the last 20 years using a simple Accu-Chek machine. It is very reliable for daily monitoring. However, do not rely only on home tests, you must get a proper lab HbA1c test done every three months.

In our yoga group, many people use home sugar testing kits to track their progress. It is very gentle and convenient. Along with regular testing, practicing Mandukasana daily has also helped many of our members keep their sugar levels stable naturally.

I am actually looking to buy one of these home kits for my mother. Are all the brands equally accurate, or is there a specific one that doctors usually recommend? I am a bit confused about how to choose.

Yes, home glucometers are readily available. I use one to see how my sugar levels respond after my morning runs and meals. It is a great way to stay motivated and keep your activity levels up, but always keep your physician in the loop.
