Is there a fever that makes your temperature drop?

My son felt very hot and then suddenly started shivering intensely, and his temperature actually dropped quite low for a bit before rising again. Is there a type of fever that makes your temperature drop like that, or should I be really concerned?

Yes, actually. Sometimes when a fever is breaking or during medical shock, your temperature can suddenly drop below normal.

Yes, a sudden drop in temperature can happen after taking paracetamol as the medicine works to break the fever. Just make sure the patient is wrapped in warm blankets, is drinking warm fluids, and consult your doctor if they remain unusually cold and weak.

My doctor once told me that when a fever 'breaks', the body sweating causes the temperature to drop. However, a sudden abnormal drop below 95°F is called hypothermia, which can happen with severe infections like sepsis. If the person has cold skin and is shivering badly, please seek emergency medical help.

If you are noticing a sudden, drastic drop in body temperature along with weakness or confusion, don't waste time researching online. Get the patient to an emergency room or consult a doctor immediately, as abnormally low body temperature during illness can be critical.

Hey, don't panic. If the fever is just breaking, a slight drop is totally normal as the body cools down. But if the temperature goes very low and they feel dizzy or pale, let's play it safe and visit a doctor right away, okay?

My temperature suddenly dropped to 96 degrees last night after my fever went away, and I felt so cold and scared. Has this happened to anyone else? Please tell me if I should rush to the hospital.
