Is substance use disorder a mental health disorder?

My brother is going through treatment for substance use. His therapist mentioned it's a mental health disorder. I always thought it was just a bad habit, but is substance use disorder actually classified as a mental health disorder?

Yes, it is classified as a mental health condition. If you are planning therapy or seeking medical help, check government hospitals or NGO clinics because private psychiatric sessions and tests can be quite expensive. Planning the finances early helps a lot.

Yes, it is clinically a mental health condition. Along with therapy, getting into a structured routine with daily exercise and eating clean really helps reset those brain pathways. It gives you a positive focus everyday.

It definitely is a mental disorder, and the best way forward is finding a reliable local counselor. You don't need fancy high-end rehabs; a good local doctor and a supportive family environment work wonders for recovery.

Don't stress too much about the heavy medical terms. Yes, it is recognized as a brain-related health condition, which just means that anyone dealing with it deserves medical care and empathy, not judgment.

It took me a long time to accept that my struggle was actually a medical and mental health issue, not just a personal failure. Accepting this truth is the first step to healing, and it takes away so much of the self-blame.

Haan na, it is officially a mental health disorder. Many people in India still think it's just a bad habit, but scientifically the brain chemistry changes, ho na. That is why professional treatment is so important.
