Is spinal stenosis arthritis?

I've been having a lot of back pain lately, and the doctor said it might be spinal stenosis. My neighbor, who has arthritis, said it sounds similar to his condition. Is spinal stenosis actually a type of arthritis?

Haan, both are closely related na. Actually, osteoarthritis of the spine is often what causes the narrowing or stenosis in the first place. You should show it to an ortho doctor for proper clarity.

No, spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal, though it is often caused by wear-and-tear arthritis.

I get so anxious reading about spine issues, it sounds really scary. From what I understand, arthritis is a cause that leads to stenosis, but please don't panic. A good doctor will help you manage it safely with physiotherapy.

My father was just told he might have spinal stenosis and I am trying to understand it. Is it treated with regular arthritis medicine or does it need a completely different treatment plan?

Spinal issues can become serious quickly if nerve compression happens, so please do not guess. Get an MRI done and consult a qualified spine specialist or orthopedic doctor to get the right diagnosis.

I totally get it, back pain issues can be so painful and confusing to understand. Spinal stenosis is basically the narrowing of the spinal spaces, and arthritis is one of its major causes. Please take care and consult a specialist.

While they aren't the exact same thing, arthritis in the spine can lead to spinal stenosis as bone spurs narrow the canal. I track my back physical therapy on my app and it helps manage the symptoms. Strongly recommend a professional diagnosis.
