Is sourdough bread diabetic friendly?

My doctor recently suggested I cut down on regular bread because of my diabetes. Someone at the bakery was telling me about sourdough bread, saying it's healthier. I wanted to know if sourdough bread is actually diabetic friendly, ya it's just another fad.

Honestly, sourdough has a lower glycemic index than regular white bread so it doesn't spike sugar immediately. But portion control is still key. I always make sure to go for a brisk 20-minute walk after having it, if your doctor has allowed you to do moderate exercise.

I was also struggling to find decent bread options for my high sugar levels. I switched to authentic sourdough last month and saw that my post-meal readings were much better than before. Just check the ingredients to ensure it is 100% genuine sourdough without added sugar or yeast.

I totally get it, giving up bread is so hard when you are trying to manage your sugar. Sourdough is actually a much gentler option because of the fermentation process. But do keep an eye on how your own body reacts to it since everyone is different.

My nutritionist at Aster Medcity told me that while sourdough is better due to slow digestion, we still have to count the carbs. It's best to ask your doctor clearly about how many slices fit into your daily diet chart.

Please don't trust random internet trends claiming sourdough is some miracle cure for diabetes. At the end of the day, it is still made of flour and has carbs. Verify with your doctor or dietician before making it a regular part of your breakfast.
