Is sour bread good for diabetics?

My husband has diabetes and he's always looking for healthier bread options. We saw 'sour bread' in a bakery, but we're not sure what it is. Is sour bread good for diabetics, or should we stick to whole wheat?

Honestly, I am too tired to even toast my bread in the morning, but my doctor told me sourdough is actually better than regular white bread because the fermentation process lowers its glycemic index. It still has carbs though, so don't go eating the whole loaf!

My dad switched to sourdough bread because his doctor advised him to cut down on normal bakery bread. It is surprisingly good for keeping his sugar levels stable, plus it tastes great with some avocado.

I read so many conflicting things about sourdough bread for my husband's diet and was super anxious. We tried giving him one small slice with peanut butter and checked his sugar after two hours—it barely spiked! Just test your levels to see how your body reacts.

Yes, traditional sourdough bread undergoes a long fermentation process which produces lactic acid, slowing down the absorption of glucose. It is much better than normal sandwich bread, but always pair it with healthy fats or protein to minimize any spikes.

Look, sourdough is definitely better than that sweet white bread you get at the local bakery. But at the end of the day, bread is still wheat. Keep your portions small and don't make it a daily habit.

Sourdough is like the only bread that doesn't treat your blood sugar like a roller coaster! Just don't let the name confuse you, it doesn't actually taste sour, just delicious.
