Is scalp eczema the same as dandruff?

My scalp has been very itchy and flaky, and I'm not sure if it's just regular dandruff or something else. Someone mentioned scalp eczema. Is scalp eczema the same thing as dandruff, or are they different conditions?

Oh, I totally thought they were the same when I first got my scalp issues! But my derm explained that dandruff is usually just flaking, while eczema is often red, itchy, inflamed patches. Mine turned out to be eczema, and it needed specific medicated shampoo, not just anti-dandruff ones.

No beta, they are not exactly same. Dandruff is common, sometimes just dry scalp. Eczema is more serious, it can be very itchy and red. For dandruff, gentle oil massage can help. But for eczema, must consult doctor, don't try remedies without knowing.

Nope, not exactly! Dandruff is usually milder flaking, like little white bits. Scalp eczema is more intense, with red, itchy, sometimes weeping patches. So if it's super itchy and red, it's probably more than just plain dandruff! Keep an eye on it 👀

Definitely different. Dandruff is mostly dry flakes, eczema involves more inflammation and severe itching. See a doc if it's bothering you a lot.

No, they are different things. Dandruff is common and usually managed with anti-dandruff shampoos. Scalp eczema is a more severe condition, often needing specific prescribed treatments from a dermatologist. If your scalp is very red and itchy, it's best to consult a doctor.
