Is sago good for diabetes?
My doctor recently diagnosed me with diabetes, and now I'm trying to be careful with my diet. Someone suggested sago (sabudana) for a change, but I'm not sure if it's okay for blood sugar levels. Can a diabetic eat sago?

Sago is basically pure starch. My sugar levels shot up just thinking about it! I used to ignore my diet in earlier days and now I regret it. Please, if you're diabetic, stay away from high GI foods like sago. Always test your sugars after trying something new and consult your doctor.
My diabetologist clearly told me to avoid sago (sabudana) if I have diabetes. It's very high in carbohydrates and has a high glycemic index, which means it causes a rapid spike in blood sugar. It offers very little fiber or protein to balance that out. So, definitely not a good choice for diabetics.
Beta, sago is mostly eaten during fasts for energy, but for sugar patients, it's not ideal. Our elders always said to eat more greens and less starchy things if you have 'sugar ki beemari'. It's better to stick to things like wheat or millets, in moderation, of course.
I'm still learning about what's good and bad for diabetes. I thought sago was okay since it's used during fasts and feels light. But if it spikes sugar, then maybe it's not. What are some good alternatives for snacks if sago is out?
Oh, this is something I've stressed about too! Sago is really tricky because it's such a pure carb source. I'd be so worried about blood sugar spikes. It's probably safer to avoid it or at least have a very tiny amount with lots of protein and fiber. But really, please check with your doctor, don't risk it!
Sago? For diabetes? Bilkul nahi, bhai. It's pure carbs, high on the glycemic index. Your sugar will shoot up. Don't even think about it. Stick to proper, low-carb food. Doctor will tell you the same.
