Is rheumatoid arthritis inherited from mother or father?

My mother has rheumatoid arthritis, but my father doesn't. My sister is showing some symptoms and we are wondering about the risk for our children. Is rheumatoid arthritis inherited more from the mother or father?

It's not inherited directly from either parent like that. There are multiple genes involved, and they can come from both sides, but it's mostly a combination of those genes and environmental triggers. Don't worry, having a parent with RA doesn't mean you automatically get it.

You can't point fingers at just your mother or father for this. It's a complex genetic mix, and even then, it's just a susceptibility risk, not a direct inheritance. If you have joint pain, just focus on getting a proper medical diagnosis instead of stressing about family trees.

My father has severe RA and now my hands have started aching slightly. I'm really anxious that I've inherited it from him. Has anyone else with a parent who has RA started feeling symptoms early, and what did you do?

Haan na, both sides can pass on the risk factors, but it's not like you will definitely get it from them. Actually, it's just a pre-disposition, you know? Don't stress too much about where it came from, just take care of your health.

Hey, please don't stress too much about this! It's not a game of who passed what. Genetics are complicated, and RA doesn't have a single source parent. Just focus on eating well, staying active, and enjoying your life, okay?
