Is rheumatoid arthritis a degenerative disease?

My father has osteoarthritis, which I know is degenerative. Now my mother has been told she might have rheumatoid arthritis. I'm wondering, is rheumatoid arthritis a degenerative disease too, like his?

Actually it is an autoimmune issue where our own system attacks the joints. It can wear things down over time, but please dont lose hope. Proper treatment keeps it under control quite well.

Honestly it starts as inflammation but can damage joints if ignored. I find drinking warm turmeric water in the morning helps with the morning stiffness. But definitely get a proper diagnosis from a rheumatologist first.

My teenager was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis last year and we had this same question. It behaves like a progressive thing if left alone, but with modern medicines, the joint damage can be stopped completely. Just stay regular with the doctor visits.

Actually osteoarthritis is the purely degenerative wear-and-tear one. Rheumatoid is an inflammatory autoimmune disease, though if the swelling is not controlled, it can cause joint damage. Take your prescribed DMARDs on time, that is the main key.

I read that it acts like one if we let it run wild. Since my diagnosis, I have cut down on heavy fried food and maida because they worsen my joint pain. Cheating on weekends is fine, but anti-inflammatory foods really help keep the flares down.

Hey, don't get scared reading scary terms online. While it can cause joint wear over the years, the right treatment stops it in its tracks today. Just focus on your daily meds, eat well, and take it one day at a time.

It can lead to joint degeneration over time because of chronic inflammation. I try to manage the inflammation by keeping a strict plant-based diet with lots of ginger and garlic. Of course, you must continue whatever medical treatment your doctor has prescribed.
