Is rheumatism the same as rheumatoid arthritis?

My grandmother has what she calls 'rheumatism', and my neighbour has 'rheumatoid arthritis'. I'm confused if these are just two names for the same thing. Is rheumatism the same as rheumatoid arthritis, or are they distinct conditions with different causes? I just want clarity.

No, they are different. Rheumatism is a general term for any joint or muscle pain. Rheumatoid arthritis is a specific, diagnosed autoimmune disease that needs prescription disease-modifying drugs.

According to my rheumatologist, 'rheumatism' is an obsolete medical term for general joint wear and tear. Rheumatoid arthritis, however, is a systemic inflammatory disease requiring targeted immunotherapy.

They are different, but whatever the name of the pain, we must keep our minds peaceful and hopeful. Proper medical care combined with daily prayers and a calm lifestyle will help you manage.

Bro, they are totally different. Rheumatism is just what old people call general joint pain. Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious autoimmune condition. My aunt has RA and she has to take strong medicines for it.

They are not the same, beta. For general rheumatism, simple home massage with warm mustard oil works. But for rheumatoid arthritis, you need proper doctor's treatment along with healthy anti-inflammatory foods.

I have been living with rheumatoid arthritis for 10 years. Don't confuse it with general rheumatism. RA is autoimmune and requires strict medication compliance, healthy diet, and regular joint mobility exercises.

They aren't the same. Just like my thyroid issue requires regular blood tests and doctor visits to manage, rheumatoid arthritis also needs continuous tracking and proper rheumatologist visits, unlike general joint pain.

Don't fall for internet articles claiming to cure 'rheumatism' with herbs. Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious autoimmune condition that can damage joints permanently if not treated by a real medical specialist.
