Is rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis the same?

My mother has been complaining about joint pains for a long time. Some people call it 'rheumatism', and others 'rheumatoid arthritis'. Are rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis the same condition, or are they different medical issues? I'm trying to understand her symptoms better.

Haan na, log often confuse ho jaate hain. Rheumatism ek generic term hai joint pains ke liye, par rheumatoid arthritis ek specific autoimmune bimaari hai. Dono thoda alag hain.

My teenager was experiencing joint stiffness and we learned that rheumatism is just a general word. Rheumatoid arthritis is a serious condition that needs specific medical care. Please consult a pediatric rheumatologist to be sure.

They are not exactly the same. Rheumatism is a broad term for joint aches, while RA is a chronic autoimmune condition. Please get blood tests like RA factor done to know the exact issue.

No, they are different. Rheumatism is an old layperson term for any joint pain or stiffness, whereas rheumatoid arthritis is a diagnosed medical condition where your immune system attacks your joints. Proper diagnosis is key.

Yes, they are different. Rheumatoid arthritis is a specific autoimmune disease, while rheumatism is just a general term for joint pain.

I was researching this yesterday. Apparently, rheumatism isn't even an official medical diagnosis anymore, it's just a broad word people used in the old days. Rheumatoid arthritis is the actual specific medical term.

No, they aren't the same. Rheumatism is a generic term for pain, while rheumatoid arthritis is a specific autoimmune disease.

I am just reading about this because my grandmother has joint pain. If rheumatism is just a general term, does it mean it doesn't need long-term medicines like rheumatoid arthritis does?
