Is rem sleep the deepest sleep?

I'm trying to understand the different sleep stages. Is REM sleep considered the deepest sleep we experience, or is there another stage that is even deeper? My sleep tracker shows varying depths and I'm a bit confused.

Actually, it is the opposite! My psychology prof told us that REM sleep is when your brain is super active and dreaming, so it's actually light sleep. Deep sleep is a completely different stage where your body physically recovers.

I used to suffer from sleeplessness and tried everything from drinking warm moon milk to soaking my feet. I learned that deep sleep is the one that cures physical tiredness, while REM is lighter and helps with memory. Both are vital for our well-being.

Haan, thoda confusion ho jata hai isme, par REM sabse deep nahi hota na. Stage 3 non-REM ko actually deep sleep bolte hain jisme body heal hoti hai. REM toh dimaag ki exercise jaisa hai jahan hum sapne dekhte hain.

I totally get it, the terms can be so confusing when you are trying to understand your sleep tracker. REM is when your brain is busy dreaming, so your body is actually closer to waking up. Deep sleep is the one where you are hard to wake up.

I just did a medical sleep study last month for my fatigue issues. The specialist explained that REM is actually a lighter stage of sleep where your eyes move rapidly. The deepest stage is slow-wave sleep, which helps you wake up feeling physically refreshed.

In my experience of tracking my sleep for a year, deep sleep is when my heart rate is the lowest and I feel completely dead to the world. During REM, my tracker shows my heart rate goes up slightly because I am dreaming. They are definitely different.

No, REM is actually a lighter sleep stage where dreams occur. Deep sleep is a separate stage that helps restore your physical energy. Both are equally important for you.

I know how anxious you can feel when trying to figure out if you are getting the right kind of sleep. To answer your question, REM is not the deepest stage; that's 'slow-wave' sleep. Please don't worry too much, as your body naturally cycles through both.
