Is rectal cancer the same as colon cancer?

My brother just had a colonoscopy, and the doctor mentioned a polyp which they are testing. I'm getting confused between different terms. Is rectal cancer the same thing as colon cancer, or are they distinct conditions?

I was looking this up recently. They are different because of where they start, but they are often grouped together as colorectal cancer since the treatment options and symptoms are quite similar.

Haan, dono thode different hote hain par arey toh bowel system ke hi part na. Colon upper part me hota hai aur rectum end part me. Iske liye doctor se clear samajhna sabse sahi rahega.

They are technically different based on the specific location of the tumor. For both, keeping a check on your digestion, regular bowel movements, and routine health screenings are vital for early detection.

My aunt went through this, and the doctor explained that while they are both large intestine cancers, rectal cancer is in the last few inches. Because of the location, the surgeries and treatments can be slightly different.

They are in different parts of the digestive tract. If you notice any serious symptoms like blood in stool, severe stomach pain, or sudden weight loss, don't rely on home remedies. Get checked by an oncologist immediately.

No, they are not exactly the same. Colon cancer occurs in the longer part of the large intestine, while rectal cancer is in the very end. They are treated by the same specialists but require different surgical approaches.
