Is quaker grits good for diabetics?

I have diabetes and I'm exploring different breakfast options. I was wondering if Quaker grits are a suitable and healthy choice for diabetics.

Quaker grits are primarily made from corn, which is relatively high in simple carbohydrates and can cause blood sugar spikes. However, the impact varies from person to person, so consulting your doctor or a clinical nutritionist is the best way to plan your diabetic diet.

Grits might taste yummy as a comforting breakfast, but since they are processed corn, they can spike your glucose quickly! It is much better to choose whole oats or daliya instead for a fiber-rich start to your day. Stay healthy and active!

As a general rule, instant grits are stripped of their natural fiber, which means they digest fast and raise blood sugar levels quickly. If you really want to eat them occasionally, combine them with a good source of protein like eggs or paneer and some fiber to slow down absorption.

I logged Quaker grits on my macro tracker and the glycemic index is around 69, which is on the higher side for diabetics. You are better off tracking your daily carbs and replacing grits with steel-cut oats or steel-cut barley which have a much better glycemic load.

Please be very careful. My husband's sugar shot up to 280 after eating a bowl of instant grits for breakfast, and we had to visit the clinic immediately. Please check with your doctor before making this a regular meal because processed corn products can be tricky.

We get these imported grits sometimes but honestly they feel too heavy and starchy. For diabetes, my grandad sticks to basic home-cooked steel cut oats or daliya. Grits feel like they would just spike your sugar levels way too fast.

Haan yaar, grits toh corn se bante hain toh carbohydrate toh hoga hi usme kaafi zyada. Diabetics ke liye yeh daily khana theek nahi hai na. Isse badhiya toh apna daliya ya oats khaya karo, woh zyada safe aur healthy option hai.
