Is psoriasis hereditary?

My daughter has started showing some skin patches similar to what her grandfather had. We are getting it checked by a doctor, but I wanted to understand more about it. Is psoriasis hereditary, or is it something that can just develop randomly?

Yes, it is hereditary, but having the gene doesn't mean you will definitely get the flares. Avoid high stress, keep your alcohol intake low, and always use a thick ceramide moisturizer right after your bath.

I am just reading about this recently and got a bit worried. If my mother had dry skin issues, does it mean I am definitely going to get psoriasis too?

It is hereditary, but staying physically active helps a lot in managing the symptoms. If your doctor allows, daily cardio or strength training can significantly lower the systemic inflammation that triggers it.

Haan, ye parivar me ek se dusre ko mil sakti hai. Par aap chinta mat kijiye, achha khana-pina rakhiye aur mann ko shant rakhiye, sab theek rahega.

Yes, it can run in families as my husband's side has a history of it, and now our daughter has mild patches. We just make sure she doesn't get too stressed with school exams and keep her skin healthy.
