Is psoriasis fungal?

I've developed some red, scaly patches on my elbows and knees, and they're quite persistent. My aunt said it could be a fungal infection, but I also heard about psoriasis having similar symptoms. Could someone clarify if psoriasis is fungal in nature?

Actually, it is autoimmune, not fungal. Since I have to monitor my diet closely for diabetes, I know that keeping internal inflammation down helps with autoimmune issues like psoriasis. Avoid too much sugar and processed food to help your skin heal.

No, it is not fungal at all. People keep using OTC anti-fungal creams on psoriasis and make it worse. Don't trust random internet blogs, go to a proper dermatologist to get a biopsy or scrap test if needed.

My doctor clearly explained that psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, meaning your skin cells grow way too fast. Fungal infections are caused by external germs, but psoriasis comes from within your own system. That's why anti-fungal powders or soaps won't do anything to clear it.

Oh, I always thought it was some kind of skin fungus because of the scaling. Is the treatment for psoriasis completely different from fungal creams then? I'm still trying to understand all this.
