Is prostate cancer hereditary?

My father had prostate cancer, and I'm worried about my own risk. Does it run in families? Is prostate cancer hereditary?

I was looking this up last week for my dad. Actually, about 10% of cases are considered hereditary. If multiple close relatives have had it, the risk definitely goes up, so it's good to keep track.

It can be hereditary, yes. I ignored my own urinary issues for months thinking it's just old age, and I really regret delaying my checkup. Please don't wait if you have a family history; go get tested today.

My elders always say we inherit both good things and health issues from our ancestors. Hereditary factors are indeed there for prostate issues. We consulted our family doctor, and he advised my sons to start screening early.

So apparently it can run in the family. Along with keeping an eye on genetics, my doctor told me that reducing heavy red meat and eating more tomatoes and green tea helps. At least I can enjoy some healthy cooked meals while staying safe!

Yes, it is hereditary in many cases. If your father or brother had it, please start getting regular PSA tests after age 40.

Yes, it can be hereditary, which is why my family got alert when my uncle was diagnosed. I made sure my father went for a screening too. It’s just a simple blood test, so don’t hesitate to get your male family members checked.

I just finished my treatment a few months ago. Since my father also had it, my doctor confirmed it was hereditary in my case. Catching it early because of my family history saved my life, so please take it seriously.
