Is pharyngitis contagious without a fever?

My son has a sore throat and is coughing, but he doesn't have a fever. The doctor said it might be pharyngitis. My mother-in-law is worried it will spread to everyone. Is pharyngitis contagious even without a fever?

Haan, bilkul ho sakti hai. Fever na ho tab bhi pharyngitis contagious ho sakti hai. Jaise common cold hota hai na, usme bhi always fever nahi hota but still it spreads. So precautions lena zaruri hai.

This makes me so anxious! So even if someone just has a sore throat but no fever, they can still spread it? I always thought fever was the main sign of being contagious. Has anyone else experienced spreading it without a fever?

Yes, it absolutely can be contagious even without a fever. Many viral or bacterial infections, like those causing pharyngitis, can be spread before symptoms are fully developed or if fever isn't a prominent symptom. Good hygiene, like handwashing and avoiding close contact, is always important.

Oh wow, I actually thought a fever was usually the main indicator for contagiousness. This is interesting to know. So, basically, even a mild sore throat could be spread? Good to be aware, especially with everyone going back to work/college.

That's a very important question, and the answer is usually yes. Many infections can be spread even without a fever being present. So, even if it feels like just a sore throat, it's best to take precautions like wearing a mask and washing hands frequently, especially around vulnerable people.
