Is personal injury protection redundant with good health insurance?

After a minor car incident, my insurance agent asked if I have Personal Injury Protection. I already have comprehensive health insurance. Is personal injury protection redundant if I have good health insurance covering medical expenses?

Honestly, at this point, I'm so sleep-deprived I barely understand my health insurance, let alone personal injury protection! But from what little I grasp, PIP covers things your health insurance might not, like lost wages. So probably not redundant, just another layer of complexity.

It's different. PIP covers things related to injuries, even lost wages. Health insurance is for medical bills only. So they serve different purposes.

That's a really good question, and honestly, navigating insurance can be so confusing. My experience with health conditions like PCOS makes me realize how many gaps there can be. Personal injury protection usually covers things beyond medical bills, like lost income, so it's probably not completely redundant. Better to check the fine print of both.

Think of it like this: your fitness routine covers your daily health, but if you get a major injury from, say, a fall during an outdoor activity, you need specific recovery. PIP is for those injury-specific costs, like physio or even lost income, not just hospital bills which health insurance covers. So, they work together.

It's so tricky to understand all these policies, right? From what I've learned, health insurance is mainly for doctor visits and hospital stays. But personal injury protection often covers things like if you need to take time off work because of an injury, or need special care at home. So they actually complement each other and aren't fully redundant.

Nah yaar, actually they are not redundant. Health insurance mostly covers just your hospital bills. PIP, on the other hand, also covers things like if you can't work after an accident, lost wages, or even rehabilitation. So it gives more overall protection. Don't confuse the two.

Not entirely, no. Personal Injury Protection (PIP) typically covers medical expenses, lost wages, and other related costs for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of who's at fault. Health insurance just covers your medical treatment. So, PIP can fill gaps where health insurance doesn't cover non-medical costs, or even medical deductibles. Worth considering, especially if you drive often.
