Is passing a kidney stone as painful as childbirth?

My friend just passed a kidney stone and she said it was the worst pain she'd ever experienced, even more than childbirth! I've been through childbirth twice, so I'm curious if the pain is really comparable. Is it actually that bad?

Well, I haven't experienced childbirth, but I had a kidney stone once, and the pain was absolutely excruciating. It felt like someone was constantly twisting something inside. Both are intensely painful, but in different ways I imagine. It's a wake-up call to manage diet and stay hydrated, especially with BP issues.

My doctor, a urologist, once told me that kidney stone pain, especially renal colic, is often described by patients as one of the most severe pains imaginable, sometimes even exceeding labor pain in intensity due to its acute, spasmodic nature. It's a visceral, sharp pain that can radiate from the back to the groin. Both are intensely painful physiological processes, but qualitatively different.

I've passed a kidney stone, and the pain was absolutely terrifying. I can't speak for childbirth, but that stone pain made me feel completely helpless and vulnerable. It's not just physical; it's a deeply distressing experience. It's valid to compare such intense pains.

I've heard many women say passing a kidney stone is comparable to childbirth pain, if not worse because it feels so concentrated and unpredictable. If you're experiencing symptoms, please go to a good hospital and ask your doctor clearly about pain management options. Don't suffer alone.
