Is papillary thyroid cancer hereditary?

My cousin was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer recently. His mother also had thyroid issues. Is papillary thyroid cancer something that runs in families, like is it hereditary?

I've been wondering about this too! I read somewhere that while most cases of papillary thyroid cancer are sporadic, there can be a familial link in a small percentage. It's confusing to understand how much genetics plays a role versus other factors.

While some cancers have strong hereditary links, for papillary thyroid cancer, it's often more sporadic. But if you have a family history, especially multiple family members, it's crucial to discuss this with an endocrinologist or genetic counselor. Early detection and monitoring are so important; don't take chances.

Haan, sometimes it can run in families, but not always. Most of the time, it just happens, na? Lekin agar family mein kisi ko hua hai, toh better hai ki test karwa lo. Just to be safe side.

Generally, papillary thyroid cancer isn't considered strongly hereditary, but a small percentage might have a familial component. Best advice: if you have a family history of any thyroid cancer, get regular check-ups. Quick detection saves time and stress in the long run.

My bio teacher actually talked about this! She said most papillary thyroid cancers aren't inherited, but if a lot of people in your family had it, then there *might* be a slightly higher risk. It's not like a direct pass-down thing usually, more like a small possibility.
