Is one kidney larger than the other?

I recently had an ultrasound for an unrelated issue, and the technician commented that one of my kidneys appeared slightly larger than the other. I didn't think much of it then, but now I'm wondering – is it normal to have one kidney larger than the other?

During my routine health checkup, they found my left kidney was slightly larger. The doctor did a kidney function test to ensure both were working fine, and they were. Get those basic blood tests done for peace of mind.

Yes, a slight difference in kidney size is normal because human anatomy is rarely perfectly symmetrical. However, if the difference is prominent, it could indicate a medical condition. Get an expert opinion from a nephrologist.

Please don't panic reading your ultrasound report, okay? A small difference in kidney size is very standard and usually harmless. Just book a quick consult with your doctor to get it verified, and stay relaxed.

It is actually very common to have slight differences in organ sizes! Just like our feet or eyes aren't exactly the same size. Still, always good to show the report to your doctor just to be 100% sure.

We often see patients with slight variations in kidney size on their scans. It is generally nothing to worry about unless accompanied by pain or abnormal urine tests. Please show the report to your doctor for safety.

I went through this exact worry last month after an ultrasound. My urologist explained that a difference of up to 1 cm is normal. We did a urine test to confirm normal function. Just consult your doctor to clear doubts.

Honestly, one of my ears is bigger than the other, so I am not surprised kidneys do it too! A minor size difference is normal. Just let your doctor check the scan so you don't stay up late overthinking it like I do.

I totally get it, seeing any variation in your organ size on a medical report can be really scary. But please breathe easy, as minor differences are quite common. A quick talk with your physician will surely reassure you.
