Is olive oil good for eczema?

My son has really bad eczema patches on his arms, and we're looking for natural remedies. My mother-in-law suggested using olive oil. Is olive oil good for eczema on kids' skin?

Olive oil is healthy to eat, but applying it directly to eczema-prone skin can sometimes damage the skin barrier because of its high oleic acid content. I prefer using virgin coconut oil topically and keeping my diet completely plant-based to reduce inflammation.

Actually, clinical studies show that olive oil can make skin irritation worse in eczema patients. It is much safer to use a pharmacist-approved barrier cream or pure petroleum jelly. They lock in moisture without causing allergic reactions.

With my PCOS, my skin is always super sensitive and prone to inflammation. I tried olive oil once for dry patches, but it didn't really suit me. Everyone's skin barrier is different, so maybe do a small patch test on your arm first.

My son had dry skin patches and we tried olive oil, but it made the skin thoda red and itchy. We switched to simple, fragrance-free moisturizing lotion which we bought from the local chemist. It works much better and is very affordable.

I was researching this yesterday because my skin gets really flaky in winter. Some websites say olive oil is moisturizing, but others say it strips the natural oils. It is so confusing! I think I will just ask a proper doctor instead.
