Is obstructive sleep apnea the same as snoring?

My wife complains I snore very loudly every night and often stop breathing for a bit. My doctor mentioned something called obstructive sleep apnea. Is that the same thing as just regular snoring?

They are actually not the same, though they are related. Snoring is just the sound of blocked airways, but sleep apnea is where breathing actually stops for a few seconds during sleep. My doctor mentioned this when we were checking my PCOS symptoms, so please get a proper sleep study done if you are worried.

Please do not rely on random internet videos or home remedies to cure loud snoring. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition where your brain might not get enough oxygen at night. Go to an ENT specialist or a pulmonologist and get a proper clinical diagnosis.

My dad used to snore so loudly and we thought it was normal, but he was always tired during the day. When we finally showed a doc, it turned out to be mild sleep apnea. Snoring is just a symptom, so definitely get it checked if there are breathing gasps in between.

Actually, sleep apnea is much more severe because your breathing stops repeatedly. I had similar sleep issues alongside my thyroid struggles, and regular doctor visits really helped. Make sure to consult a specialist and do whatever diagnostic tests they prescribe.

I was just reading about this yesterday online because my roommate snores like crazy. Apparently, snoring is just noisy breathing, but apnea is when the airway completely collapses and stops air flow. It's a proper medical issue that needs a doctor's attention.

No, sleep apnea is much deeper than simple snoring as it affects your inner breath cycle and leaves you exhausted. Please take care of your body and stay positive while seeking medical help. Finding peace and getting the right treatment from a doctor will help you sleep soundly again.
