Oatmeal is generally a very healthy food for the body. However, if there is a diagnosed kidney problem, you should check with your doctor first because oats contain phosphorus. Otherwise, it is very good for general health.
At 55, my body has started sending warning lights for everything. Oats are good for keeping my weight down, which helps my kidneys work less. Just don't overdo the portions, too much of any healthy food can also cause issues!
Honestly, I just eat oats because it is the easiest thing to prepare when I am running late. I didn't even know people worried about it affecting their kidneys! Unless you have a medical condition, I think you are totally fine eating it.
Please be very careful if you already have any stage of kidney disease. My father had high potassium levels which complicated his kidney health, and we had to strictly limit oats and other high-mineral foods. Always consult a proper nephrologist before changing your diet.
I read online that oats have potassium and phosphorus, and it immediately made me so anxious about my dad's kidneys. But after speaking to his doctor, we found out it is only a concern for advanced kidney disease. For healthy kidneys, it is actually quite good.
