Is oatmeal good after vomiting?

I had a terrible stomach bug yesterday and was vomiting a lot. Now I'm feeling a bit better but need something gentle to eat. Is oatmeal good after vomiting, or should I try something else?

Immediately after vomiting, your digestive system is highly sensitive. Oats are high in fiber, which can actually irritate an unstable stomach. Better to track your hydration first, stick to ORS or coconut water, and then move to extremely light foods like rice kanji.

Be very careful. I once had continuous vomiting, tried to manage with light home food like oats, and ended up severely dehydrated in the hospital. If you are vomiting repeatedly, please see a doctor immediately instead of trying to eat heavy fibers.

I know how awful and exhausting it feels after vomiting, and you just want to eat something to get your strength back. But please don't rush into eating oats. Keep your stomach empty for a bit, sip some water slowly, and let your body rest first.

My family physician always says that after vomiting, the gut needs absolute rest from fiber. Oats contain beta-glucan which takes time to digest, and this can trigger nausea again. The doctor advised sticking to the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) for the first 24 hours.

Actually, my younger brother just threw up a while ago and is asking for food. I thought oats cooked in plain water would be gentle, but now I am confused. Is it better to give him simple plain khichdi instead of oats?
