Is neosporin good for eczema?

My younger sister has eczema, and sometimes the itching gets really bad and her skin cracks. My aunt suggested putting Neosporin on it to help with healing and prevent infection. Is Neosporin safe and effective for eczema?

No, Neosporin is an antibacterial ointment and won't help with standard eczema flare-ups. In fact, it contains neomycin which can actually trigger allergic contact dermatitis and make your eczema much worse. Stick to thick, fragrance-free ceramides or the steroid creams prescribed by your dermatologist.

Actually, Neosporin is for cuts and infections, ho na. Using it on dry eczema can make the skin more irritated because of the ingredients. It is better to use simple coconut oil or a heavy cream that your dermatologist recommends to soothe the itching.

Beta, Neosporin is medicine for wounds and cuts, don't put it on dry eczema. For itching and dryness, applying pure virgin coconut oil or aloe vera gel is much safer and more soothing. If the skin is cracked or bleeding, please visit a doctor for proper medicine.

Unless your eczema is throwing a secondary bacterial party from all the scratching, Neosporin won't help much! It is an antibiotic, not a moisturizer. Better to stick to your doctor's advice and load up on some heavy-duty moisturizers to stop the itch.

My son has had eczema since he was a baby, and our pediatrician specifically told us to avoid Neosporin. It is meant for cuts and wounds, not dry eczema patches, and can cause a bad skin reaction. We always use thick moisturizing balms and wet wraps to soothe his skin instead.

I was thinking of trying Neosporin on my dry, itchy patches too, but I am so scared of getting a bad reaction. Has anyone else experienced their eczema getting redder or worse after using it? I think I will just wait and call my skin specialist before putting anything on my face.

Eczema is a skin barrier issue, so an antibiotic like Neosporin isn't the correct solution. Keeping your body hydrated and taking cold showers after a good workout can help manage flare-ups. Just make sure to get a proper cream prescribed by a dermatologist.
