Is mouth cancer painful?

My neighbour's husband has been complaining of some pain in his mouth for a while now, and he's scared it might be something bad like cancer. I was wondering, is mouth cancer always painful, or can it start without any pain?

It can start as a painless sore, which is why people ignore it. If you have any ulcer that hasn't healed in two weeks, just spend a few hundred rupees and get a dentist to check it instead of waiting for pain.

Usually it starts pretty quiet and painless, like a stealthy visitor. Don't wait for it to start hurting to get it checked, go show a doctor and clear the doubt!

In the beginning, it might not hurt at all, which is tricky! But please don't worry too much, just get any long-lasting spot checked by a doctor to be completely safe.

Actually, early stages are often completely painless. Pain usually starts when it grows deeper or affects nearby nerves, so any non-healing red or white patch should be evaluated by a doctor immediately.

It doesn't always start with pain, so it's easy to miss. Please take care and get it checked by a doctor just to be sure.

My uncle had it and honestly, it didn't hurt him at all in the start. He only went to the clinic because the ulcer wasn't going away for a month. Don't ignore it if it doesn't hurt.

Listen, don't scare yourself thinking the worst. It often starts without any pain, but that doesn't mean every painless bump is cancer. Just get a proper doctor's opinion and breathe easy.

It can be completely painless early on, which is why routine oral checkups are so important. Keep an eye on any changes in your mouth and consult a medical professional if something looks off.

I read that it might not hurt at first and now I'm checking my mouth every hour. Has anyone else gone through this anxiety over a simple mouth ulcer?

Don't look up symptoms on internet forums trying to judge by pain levels. Only a proper biopsy or specialist examination can tell you what it is. Go to a hospital and get it verified.
