Is metastatic prostate cancer curable?

A friend of mine was just told his prostate cancer has spread. He's very upset, and we're all trying to support him. We are trying to gather as much information as possible. Is metastatic prostate cancer considered curable?

I was just looking this up recently, as an uncle's friend has it. Metastatic prostate cancer means it's spread beyond the prostate. From what I read, it's generally not considered curable in the traditional sense, but treatments have advanced so much that men can live many years with good quality of life by managing the disease. It's more about control than cure, usually.

As a retired medical professional, I can tell you that metastatic prostate cancer, where the cancer has spread to distant parts of the body, is typically not considered curable. However, this does not mean untreatable. Advances in hormone therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy can effectively control the disease for extended periods, improving both lifespan and quality of life. My oncologist friend says it's now often treated like a chronic disease to be managed.

Ah, the joys of getting older and having to worry about all these things, eh? When they say 'metastatic,' it usually means it's gone on a world tour in your body. So, 'curable' is a very strong word here, probably not. But the good news is, they have a lot of ways to keep it in check and make you feel decent for a long time. It's more about managing it like a grumpy tenant.
