Is mental health genetic?

My brother's son has been struggling with some issues, and my sister-in-law is worried it runs in the family. She asked me if mental health is genetic, and I wasn't sure what to tell her.

My psychologist actually explained this to me in detail. She said it's not simply 'genetic' in the way eye color is, but more about genetic predisposition. It means you might inherit a higher susceptibility to certain mental health conditions if they run in your family, but environmental factors, lifestyle, and coping mechanisms play a huge role too. So, it's a mix of both nature and nurture, not just one or the other.

Honestly, I used to panic thinking mera beta bhi aise hi ho jayega because my elder brother has anxiety issues. But then I read up a lot and spoke to a counselor. They said it's not a guarantee. We can definitely take steps to build resilience and manage stress better, even if there's a family history. Don't worry too much, just be aware and proactive.

While some tendencies can run in families, a lot depends on how we live our lives. Eating healthy, yoga, meditation, even just talking openly about feelings can help a lot. However, if you feel something serious is going on or you're struggling, pls talk to a doctor or a therapist. Don't just rely on home remedies for severe symptoms.

Haan, some mental health stuff might have a genetic component, but physical health seriously impacts it too. Regular exercise, even just a good walk, releases feel-good hormones. And what you eat makes a difference – a balanced diet fuels your brain right. So even if it runs in the family, you can build a strong foundation with lifestyle changes.

My chacha has depression, so I was always kinda worried if I'd get it too. But so far so good. My doc said it increases risk but isn't a sure thing. Just gotta keep chill and find healthy ways to deal with stress, ya know? For me, it's gaming and hanging out with friends.
