Is mental health a sociological issue?

For my postgraduate studies in sociology, I'm focusing on public health challenges. I'm analyzing how mental health impacts society and vice versa. Is mental health explicitly considered a sociological issue within academic discourse and research?

Honestly, yes, it can be. When my thyroid was out of whack, my mood was also totally off, I felt so low. Sometimes our physical health and social environment really impact our mental state. It's all connected, doc always says.

See, when I visit my specialist at Apollo, they always explain how lifestyle and surroundings play a huge role. Best to talk to a proper therapist or a psychiatrist if you're struggling, and ask them clearly how society affects it. They can guide you properly.

Bhai, of course it is. Stress from work, family pressure, what people think – all this affects our dimaag, no? Can't just ignore these things. It's not just a personal problem.

Absolutely, it's a huge part of it. I ignored my own anxiety for so long, thinking it was just 'my nature' or 'life's challenges'. But no, it was more. Don't make my mistake; get it checked if you feel something is off. It can get worse otherwise.

Mental health definitely has significant sociological components, like societal expectations, stigma, access to resources, and economic factors. While it's complex and multifactorial, acknowledging the social dimension is crucial. For any personal concerns, consulting a professional is always the most prudent step.
