Is lupus arthritis?

My mother has a lot of joint pain and stiffness, especially in her hands. Her doctor is looking into possible causes, and lupus was mentioned. I wanted to clarify, is lupus specifically a type of arthritis?

No, lupus is not arthritis, but it can cause severe joint pain that feels very similar to it. Consulting a rheumatologist will help clear this up.

Lupus is a broader autoimmune disease, while arthritis is specifically about joint inflammation. Keep in mind that diagnostic tests like ANA and dsDNA can be a bit expensive, so plan your budget and check if your local government hospital offers these tests at lower rates.

They are different, though lupus can definitely make your joints swell up like arthritis. If you are experiencing joint pain along with rashes, please don't just treat it as simple arthritis. Get a proper checkup done to be safe!

I can only share that my sister has lupus and she suffers from joint pain that we initially thought was just rheumatoid arthritis. Once she saw a specialist, we found out it was actually lupus affecting her joints. It's best to let a specialist diagnose it.

Lupus is a different disease that can affect the kidneys and skin along with the joints. While ginger tea and warm compresses can help soothe the joint aches naturally, you must take the proper medications prescribed by your specialist.
