Is lung cancer hereditary?

My grandfather passed away from lung cancer many years ago, and now my father has been a heavy smoker for decades. We are worried about his health. Is lung cancer hereditary, meaning if someone in the family had it, does it increase the risk for others?

It can be hereditary in some rare cases, but mostly it is due to external things like smoking or passive smoke. Instead of worrying about genes, we should focus on keeping our homes smoke-free and getting regular chest health checkups if we have a family history.

Actually, some specific gene mutations can be passed down, yaar, but it is not the most common reason. Most cases are environmental. If you are really concerned because of family history, just talk to an oncologist and get a genetic test done to be clear.

While hereditary factors exist, we cannot change our genes, but we can change our habits. I always make sure my family practices deep breathing and drinks herbal teas, but for actual genetic cancer risk, a proper hospital screening is the only reliable way.

Haan na, even I used to think it is completely hereditary, but my doctor friend told me it's mostly due to lifestyle and pollution. Still, if many people in the family had it, then extra care is needed. Better to consult a specialist once for peace of mind.

I ignored my uncle's history with lung issues and didn't get my own chronic wheezing checked for months. Thankfully it was just asthma, but please don't take risks if you have a family history of lung cancer. Go get a doctor's opinion immediately.
