Is liver good for diabetics?

My doctor recently diagnosed me with type 2 diabetes, and I'm trying to figure out a good diet plan. My son suggested I eat liver sometimes, but I'm not sure if that's safe or good for my sugar levels. Can diabetics eat liver?

As a diabetic, I have to be very careful. Liver has almost zero carbs, so it won't spike your blood sugar levels, which is great. However, it is high in cholesterol, so if you also have high BP or heart concerns like many of us do, eat it in very small portions and monitor your fasting sugar the next day.

From a purely macro perspective, liver is high protein and low carb, which fits well into a diabetic-friendly meal plan. Combined with regular strength training to improve insulin sensitivity, it can be a good animal protein source. Just watch out for how it is cooked—avoid heavy gravies.

Yes, it is actually quite nutritious and doesn't have sugar! 🌟 Just cook it with very little oil or grill it instead of making a heavy masala fry. Your body will get a great dose of iron and vitamins without any sugar spikes! 👍

We must listen to what our body needs with a calm mind. While liver is nutritious for those who eat it, balance is the key to managing diabetes. Eat mindfully, practice simple breathing exercises, and keep your spirits high to help your body heal.

Honestly, keeping track of what is safe for diabetes and what isn't is exhausting enough to give anyone insomnia. Liver is fine because it won't raise your glucose, but please don't deep fry it in ghee, otherwise your lipid profile will go for a toss instead of your sugar.

I discussed this with my endocrinologist last month. He told me that liver is exceptionally high in iron and copper, which can sometimes interfere with insulin pathways if consumed in excess. He advised limiting it to once in two weeks, and focusing more on lean meats like chicken breast for daily protein.

I have seen many people in this group ask about this. Liver is rich in essential nutrients, but diabetics should eat it in moderation because of the high vitamin A and cholesterol content. Pair it with a big bowl of green salad to get enough fiber in your meal.
