Is liver and onions fattening?

My mother-in-law often cooks liver and onions for dinner, but I'm trying to watch my weight. Is this dish considered fattening, or can I have it occasionally without guilt?

Honestly, it depends on how you cook it. If you are deep frying the onions and using loads of butter, then yes, it will be fattening. But if you just sauté them with a little oil, it's actually a pretty healthy, high-protein meal.

As someone who monitors food closely, liver itself is quite lean and low in fat. The extra calories usually come from the heavy gravy or oil used in cooking. If you are on a calorie deficit, measure the oil and keep the onions caramelized with just a spray of oil.

My son loves this dish, and I cook it for him once in two weeks. It's not fattening if you make it at home where you can control the oil. It is very filling, so it actually stops kids from eating junk food later.

Liver is packed with protein, which actually helps boost your metabolism. If you are worried about the calories, just go for a 20-minute walk after your meal to help with digestion and keep your fitness goals on track.

In our times, we ate everything cooked in pure ghee, and nothing was considered fattening because we worked hard physically. Liver is highly nourishing. Eat it in moderation, and add a little ginger-garlic to make sure it digests easily without causing heaviness.

Chill, it's not going to make you gain weight overnight! Liver is super nutritious and onions are just veggies. Just enjoy your meal and don't stress too much about every single calorie, okay?
