Is lactaid milk good for diabetics?

My father has diabetes and someone recommended lactaid milk to him. I was wondering if this type of milk is actually good for people with diabetes, or if there are any specific things we should be aware of. He's trying to manage his sugar levels better.

Let's be clear: lactose-free does NOT mean sugar-free. In fact, Lactaid can sometimes taste sweeter because the lactose is already broken down into simpler sugars, which might spike your glucose faster. If you are diabetic, choose unsweetened almond or soy milk instead.

Lactaid milk is just normal milk with the lactase enzyme added to break down sugar, na. So the total carbs and sugar content are exactly the same as regular milk. Haan, if you are diabetic, you still have to watch the portion size because it can raise your blood sugar just like normal milk.

I once thought lactose-free milk was a healthy alternative for my diabetes and drank it freely, which caused my fasting sugar levels to shoot up badly. Please don't make the same mistake. Always check your blood sugar levels after trying any new food and consult your doctor.

Don't let the 'free' in lactose-free fool your sweet tooth! It's great for your stomach if dairy makes you run to the washroom, but your glucose monitor won't see any difference. Keep an eye on those carbs or your doctor will give you a earful!

I was thinking of buying Lactaid milk for my father who has diabetes, but I am really confused now. Does it actually have the same amount of carbohydrates as regular dairy milk? Please let me know if anyone has checked this with a nutritionist.

No, it's not any better for diabetes because the carbohydrate count remains the same as regular milk. It only helps if you are lactose intolerant.
